On a hot July morning at a small office in Takamatsu, a woman in a short-sleeved blouse (A) looks up as the colleague who transferred in this week (B) arrives at the next desk in her best suit, jacket and all.

    Oh, you're wearing a suit.

    はい、今日きょうは会議かいぎですよね？

    Hai, kyō wa kaigi desu yo ne?

    Yes, the meeting's today, right?

  3. A

    いえ、今日きょうじゃないですよ。

    Ie, kyō ja nai desu yo.

    No, it's not today.

  4. B

    えー、暑あつい…

    Ē, atsui…

    Oh no... I'm boiling.
